Milan Design Week is just around the corner: the 64th Salone del Mobile will take place from April 21 to 26, 2026, at Rho Fiera, featuring more than 1,900 exhibitors and the return of the biennial exhibitions EuroCucina/FTK and the International Bathroom Exhibition. Meanwhile—starting Monday, April 20—the streets of Milan will come alive with the rich Fuorisalone program, offering hundreds of exhibitions, installations, workshops, and events of all kinds across the city’s main design districts: 5Vie, Brera, Porta Venezia, Tortona, Durini, and Isola.
A Matter of Salone is the theme of the 64th Salone del Mobile: a reflection on the meaning of designing today that celebrates material as the origin of the creative process. Along the same lines, Fuorisalone 2026 follows the theme Being a Project, an invitation to rediscover design as a dynamic and responsible process, capable of placing human beings back at the center as agents of change.
Here are THE PLAN’s recommendations for the must-see events during Milan’s design week, when the city once again becomes the global hub of the design industry.

The installation La fabbrica dell'ombra (The Factory of Shade) at the Biblioteca Umanistica dell’Incoronata, designed by 967arch, celebrates the identity and history of Fim Umbrellas: its craftsmanship, materials, and technical gestures that have defined its outdoor design approach for over 50 years. Conceived as a contemporary factory in the heart of Milan, the installation narrates the hybridization between craftsmanship and industrial production—one of the hallmarks of Made in Italy. At its core is the Sala degli Archi, where Fim presents its production chain as a design act.
“La fabbrica dell'ombra narrates the paradox of producing on immaterial. intangible, and at times poetic good. Designing shade, in fact means intervening in light, transforming it into absence through a physical device. Shade thus becomes function, aesthetics, and environmental comfort: on element capable of combining technique and sensitivity, performance and perception. lt is the symbolic narrative of a production deeply rooted in the materiai culture of our territory, grounded in craftsmanship and evolving into contemporary serial production. without losing its connection to constructive knowledge and to the identity of places”.

WHERW: Fabbrica Sassetti (Fondazione Kenta), Via Filippo Sassetti 31
WHEN: April 20-26
The new collection by Francesca Mueller is titled Geometry of Waste, in which the textile designer explores the untapped potential of stock yarns (deadstock) in the creation of unique pieces. Her work is exhibited within the group show No Space for Waste at Fabbrica Sassetti, dedicated to circular design and curated by Isola Design District.
As the name suggests, Geometry of Waste is based on a geometric grid of patterns and color rules that triggers a reversal of the traditional production process: while usually the material is modified to adapt to the design—often involving high-impact dyeing processes—in this case it is the design that adapts to the material. Entirely made using available surplus yarns, the project aims to transform unsold yarns into a scalable and producible system, and represents a tribute to the tradition of flatweave rugs.

For the first time, the contemporary art fair Paris Internationale arrives in Milan, choosing the Filzi25 construction site - part of the redevelopment of Palazzo Galbani by Park - as its venue. This choice reflects the studio’s exploration of temporary uses for transforming urban spaces. In this context, art becomes a driving force for change: it sparks collective interest, opens usually inaccessible places, and fosters new forms of interaction.
A key example is The Meanwhile Café, a temporary ground-floor café that transforms a transitional space into a social hub, initiating a broader project that continues with The Meanwhile Club, a site-specific installation at Park Hub.
WHERE: Via Solferino 16

Teatro della Vita, a full-scale installation conceived by designers Nathalie Du Pasquier and George Sowden, transforms the Kerakoll Brera Studio on Via Solferino into a dynamic, sensory urban space. To narrate the 1,500 new colors of the Kerakoll Colors project, the showroom has been entirely reimagined, drawing inspiration from the buildings of the imaginary city featured in Proposition pour une petite ville, created by the duo in 1984 and now part of the Centre Pompidou collection in Paris.
Perspectives, volumes, geometries, and glimpses intertwine and gradually reveal themselves, offering a visual reflection on the role of color as a key element in architecture and urban space. Du Pasquier and Sowden reinterpret the city as a true theater - a place of relationships, encounters, and perceptions—where color and decorated surfaces become expressive and narrative tools of architecture.
WHERE: Pavilion 9 – Stand Raritas 15A/15B, Fiera Milano Rho
WHEN: April 21–26
In occasione della prima edizione di Salone Raritas, Bianco67 presenta “Secunda Natura. Nothing here is just a wall”, un progetto sviluppato da Parasite 2.0 e dedicato al design da collezione e all’alta manifattura.
The project, an evolution of the XC Objects series, presents a hybrid system that blends object and architecture - comprising wall-mounted units, vertical mirrored elements, and a coffee table - designed as an open, modular configuration. Through the use of six-axis robotics and steel connectors, the stone is machined with precision, while the surfaces and hues of the travertine create a layered material narrative.
