THE WATERFRONT AART architects The 19,500-m2 residential complex has been designed as a sculptural, homogeneous entity of built structures nestling very closely together and creating a myriad of passages and courtyards. The form and expression of the Waterfront drew inspiration from the mountains and landscape surrounding Stavanger, while the complex reflects the scale of the city and accommodates the wishes and requirements of the individual residents. LÖYLY Avanto Architects The project started from the city of Helsinki initiative. Hernesaari is a former industrial area on the Helsinki seashore that is being developed into a residential area. New uses are being developed for the area, while waiting for future changes to come. Studio Bell National Music Centre EN Allied Works Architecture In November 2016, the National Music Centre (NMC) of Canada celebrates the completion of Studio Bell, its new home and the latest cultural project designed by Allied Works Architecture (AWA), winning of the architectural competition sponsored by the NMC itself. The new, state-of-the-art cultural center is at once a performance hall, recording facility, broadcast studio, live music venue and museum—the first facility of its kind in North America and the first to be dedicated to music in Canada in all of its forms. Refurbishment of the Aula Magna Auditorium Giovanna Masciadri The State University of Milan's main campus is centred on Ca’ Granda, an emblematic humanist construction by the Florentine architect and scholar Filarete that was built in the mid-15th century as a hospital. In the 1950s, Liliana Grassi designed the wonderfully balanced main lecture hall, located in a courtyard of the monumental complex, as part of the restoration and rebuilding work required due to bomb damage suffered in World War II. JW MARRIOTT VENICE RESORT & SPA Matteo Thun & Partners In the Venetian lagoon, an artificial island has been transformed into a luxury resort and park. The island, built in 1860 is a state-protected landscape and has about twenty early-twentieth-century buildings, including a hospital and service buildings. The project’s complexity was managed through a shift in scale from the macro (masterplan) to the micro (details) by Matteo Thun + Partners. New auditorium Fabbricanove This is a very expressive project in the heart of the old town of San Cataldo, in the Sicilian province of Caltanissetta. The goal was to create an urban complex that interpreted the settled architectural appearance of the town, understood the need for local structures to be revamped and catered for the multiple functions required of such an auditorium. Villa Elle Maison Damilanostudio Architects This villa is near Geneva in Switzerland, enjoying sweeping views of the landscape, city and Lake Geneva. It rests elegantly on a slope, with large sliding doors and windows on the south-western and south-eastern sides.
