The Smile is an urban pavilion made using some of the largest ever panels of American tulipwood CLT. Designed by Alison Brooks and engineered by Arup as a Landmark Project for the London Design Festival 2016, The Smile is set to transform the way we use timber to create space, form and structure.

An urban installation showcasing the structural potential of cross-laminated hardwood. Designed by Alison Brooks Architects with Arup engineers and manufactured by Zueblin Timber. In partnership with Chelsea UAL.

In a collaboration between AHEC and Benchmark for London Design Festival, Sir Terence Conran commissions Sebastian Cox to create 'Getting away from it all'; a workspace made out of American red oak and cherry.

Asif Khan has designed an elevated playground for Chisenhale Primary School in Bow, East London, which has just completed construction. The timber longhouse is made using thermally modified American tulipwood and ash.

The Tulou dividing screen is a playful dialogue between the two dimensionality of a flat surface screen and the three dimensional individual triangles made from curved and cupped tulipwood that sit within the screen. Each tulipwood triangle sits perched on a tensile wire and is held in place with a red oak counter balance. The wall of triangles sways and bobs gently in the breeze. The installation is the first time that the designers Andrew Haythornthwaite and Peter Marigold have worked together.

In a collaboration between AHEC and Benchmark for London Design Festival, Alex de Rijke commissions Barnby & Day to create 'Table Turned'; a dining table made out of cross-laminated American tulipwood.

Focusing on kitchen products and their origins, Mathias Hahn chose to concentrate on essential and versatile utensils for preparing and serving food. Each piece in the collection represents a familiar archetype and stands for a type of application but is not limited to one specific task. In this sense their attributes depend on interpretation. The Runcible kitchen utensils are made from solid hard maple, a material traditionally used for this kind of high quality kitchenware because of its smooth grain and hardwearing properties.
