Construction is now underway in Brescia’s Sanpolino district on a new sports center to include a sports hall and a gym for female artistic gymnasts to train for the Olympics. Both projects, commissioned by Municipality of Brescia and Brescia Infrastrutture, are being partly funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan to transform the city into the Italian capital for these disciplines.
Intended to host training sessions for both the local club, and national and international teams, the artistic gymnastics facility is set to obtain recognition from the Italian Gymnastics Federation. The sports hall, to provide facilities for athletics and other disciplines, will be Italy’s second largest indoor center after the one in Ancona.
This project is the work of the temporary grouping of Progetto DVA (a consortium made up of DVA – DVision Architecture, which is part of the DVArea group, and Progetto CMR), DVMEP, architect Giuseppe De Martino, and Geolambda Engineering.
This modern gym will be a complete facility, providing preparatory, training, and maintenance activities for sports disciplines regulated by national federations and promotional bodies, in full compliance with Italian National Olympic Committee regulations. A prefabricated structure measuring over 1200 m2, it will have a photovoltaic system on the roof.
Through glass doors, the gym will have direct access to the center’s changing rooms, medical room, and temporary accommodation. The project also involves a second 117 m2 gym for warm-up activities to be integrated into the area of the changing and medical rooms.
The new 7400 m2 sports hall will be next to Centro Outdoor “Gabre Gabric” and Centro Sportivo “Azeglio Vicini.” The project includes a multipurpose structure for hosting athletics, climbing, and the martial arts. A central element of the complex will be a 4200 m2 oval athletics track, with six 200-meter lanes with high-performance rubber flooring. There will also be areas for the long and triple jumps, sprinting, and pole vaulting.
Outdoor parking will be available for visitors, with the stands accommodating over 1100 spectators for national sporting events. The facility will include four changing rooms for 80 athletes, medical rooms, and ancillary spaces.
In terms of sustainability, the building will have nZEB classification and use photovoltaic systems, district heating, thermal insulation, and high-performance systems to maximize energy efficiency and minimize emissions.
