In Valverde, near Catania, architect Giorgio Antonio Potenza has designed a 205 m2 low-profile home with essential, contemporary lines that alternately recede into the landscape and assert a distinct visual profile. Attention to detail, a high-performance building envelope, and quality finishes and materials make the home a synthesis of design language and living comfort. Röfix played a vital role in achieving this result. The company – which specializes in plaster, innovative insulation, restoration products, concrete, screeds, and modern coatings – supplied a mineral wool insulation system that features a decorative Röfix Designputz finish with the Stripes texture. This combination defines the building’s character, adding a distinctive quality that integrates the project with its surroundings and the Sicilian landscape.

To ensure thermal and acoustic performance and climate comfort, the architects specified a Röfix mineral wool ETICS,which also meets high fire safety standards. As a natural, breathable material, mineral wool significantly improves occupant comfort throughout the year, reducing energy consumption and promoting a healthy indoor environment. The material’s high dimensional stability and weather resistance also ensure long-term durability. Vapor permeability means that the wall structure can breathe, preventing condensation buildup. These features are especially important in the Etnean landscape of Valverde, an area defined by high solar exposure and significant temperature fluctuations.

To give the project a distinctive visual profile, the design incorporates Röfix Designputz decorative plaster, applied with the custom Stripes texture from the Kreativ range. This finish creates a subtle interplay of light and shadow, with surface textures that shift with the natural light to give the building’s volumes depth and dynamism. Its precisely calibrated ribbed effect emphasizes the building’s horizontal and vertical lines, accentuating its geometry and contemporary profile. The plaster finish balances design and performance, providing weather resistance and durabilitywhile establishing a cohesive visual profile.

“The home in Valverde is a model of private residential construction in which a coming together of architectural design, technical expertise, and building systems has produced a high-performance, secure, and distinctive structure,” notes the Röfix team. “The project demonstrates how technical innovation and design language can work in tandem, enhancing the local context and living quality.”
