How can we intervene on the existing heritage, bringing spaces up to today's regulatory standards, while respecting the building's historical and architectural value? This will be the main focus of the upcoming conference titled Re-build in the built environment, organized by THE PLAN in partnership with Capoferri Serramenti. The event is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday 5th of April in Salone dei Cinquecento, Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, Italy.
The conference will cover the intervention undertaken by the Administration of Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio, together with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Florence to secure the Salone dei Cinquecento, Palazzo Vecchio’s largest and most prestigious hall (54-meters long and 23-meters wide). It was realized in the late 15th century to host the meetings of the Great Council, or Council of the Five Hundred, and it was frescoed by Giorgio Vasari and adorned by the works of Michelangelo and Giambologna.
The goal of the recent intervention was the achievement of fire safety standards in compliance with the historical and architectural peculiarities of Palazzo Vecchio. In this context, Capoferri Serramenti was called to design and build the eight window frames with wood and metal solutions, fitting into the existing architecture, updating and securing them.
