PhMuseum presents the first edition of Photobook Mania, the biennial dedicated to the photobook, taking place on October 18–19, 2025, in Bologna, at the Serre dei Giardini Margherita, within Serra Madre.
The event, with free admission, will run from 10 AM to 7 PM and is set to become an international reference point for independent photographic publishing. It will bring together over twenty publishers from around the world, offering a wide selection of publications that reflect the latest trends and experiments in the field of photobooks.
Made possible thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Bologna, sponsorship by MPB, collaboration with Banca di Bologna, and cultural partnerships with the Municipality of Bologna’s Pact for Reading and Card Cultura, the event is part of a renewed program of activities, alternating with the PhMuseum Days festival scheduled for fall 2026.
In addition to the strong editorial presence, the Photobook Mania program includes more than forty talks with artists, curators, and industry professionals, thematic workshops, and two main exhibitions. These include Dummies and Books from FOLIO 2024/25 Photobook Making Masterclass, a show offering an in-depth look at the process of transforming photographic images into coherent and engaging narratives within the physical book format, exploring the creative potential of editorial storytelling. The second exhibition is dedicated to the PhMuseum 2025 Photobook Award, showcasing 30 photobook projects submitted through the first edition of the open call.
A jury composed of Max Pinckers, Yumi Goto, Karla Hiraldo-Voleau, Giuseppe Oliverio, and Camilla Marrese will select the winning project, to be announced during the event on Saturday, October 18, at 7 PM. The prize includes publication with PhMuseum and participation in PhMuseum Days 2026. Also on Saturday, at 6 PM, the first issue of the PhMuseum print magazine will be presented as part of a rich schedule of launches attended by the authors.
PhMuseum will also host the intensive workshop Dummy Deep Dive, led by U.S. photographer and writer Aaron Schuman, aimed at photographers and artists who wish to turn their work into a book.
