Max Dudler to headline the talk “Architecture and Sustainable Urban Development: The Swiss Example” at the Palazzina Reale in Florence

The series “Architecture and Sustainable Urban Development: The Finnish and Swiss Examples” continues with its second event on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Palazzina Reale, Piazza della Stazione 50, Florence.

The guest of honor will be Swiss architect Max Dudler, founder of the Zurich-based firm Max Dudler, who will discuss the Swiss approach to architecture and sustainable urban development, presenting a selection of notable projects on the topic.

The event is promoted by the Fondazione Architetti Firenze and organized with the patronage of the Embassy of Switzerland in Italy, the SIA – Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (international SIA network), the Order of Architects of Florence, the CNAPPC (National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers, and Conservators), and the DIDA – Department of Architecture, University of Florence.

 

“Architecture and Sustainable Urban Development: the Swiss Example,” the themes of the talk with Max Dudler

The architect will present a selection of works that place particular emphasis on climate change, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, the use of natural and traditional materials, as well as on recycling and reuse, with a focus on respect for both people and the urban context.

The discussion will delve into the role that sustainability plays today in urban planning and renewal in Switzerland, paying special attention to the impact of architecture on the environment, society, economy, and local political fabric.

The event is part of the “Glance Around program, now in its eighth meeting, a series that began in 2022 and is curated by architect Arianna Callocchia, with the aim of fostering cultural and professional exchange between Italian and international contexts.

The institutional greetings will feature contributions from Caterina Bini (President, Fondazione Architetti Firenze), Silvia Ricceri (President, Order of Architects of Florence), Sara Funaro (Mayor of Florence), Fabrizio F.V. Arrigoni (Full Professor, University of Florence), Roberto Balzaretti (Ambassador of Switzerland to Italy), and Martin Joos (Committee Member, SIA International Network).

The initiative is made possible thanks to the support of ChiantiBanca, with Switzerland Tourism as Technical Partner.

Admission is free and open to the public. Participation entitles registered architects to 2 professional training credits (CFP), upon online registration.
