Nexion began life in 2014, when two large and thriving family-run companies specialized in sintered surfaces formed a joint venture. One was Italian firm Ceramiche Speranza, established in 1961 to export the finest Italian ceramic products. The other was Indian company Simpolo, established in 1977 by the Aghara family, and among the largest producers of ceramics for surfaces and sanitaryware.
Nexion has successfully capitalized on its dual histories and cultures, combining Italian design, technology, and business acumen with Indian craftsmanship. And the same applies to its people, with Italians and Indians working side by side in a state-of-the-art factory equipped with Italian machinery. Originally, the firm’s target market was architects and designers in India. Nexion has nevertheless expanded internationally and is now present in over 50 countries. And the company currently has its sights set on doubling its production capacity, strengthening its logistics platform, and increasing investments in product innovation, branding, sales, and customer service.
Focusing on its dual identity, Nexion continues to invest in both human resources and innovation – from concept through to the technology needed to turn ideas into reality. A fundamental aim has always been to contribute to the urbanization process by improving the quality of life of people in both public and private spaces. This is why its core values are beauty, care, ingenuity, union, knowledge, and integrity. Nexion sees beauty, in particular, as an intrinsic value that elevates its customers’ quality of life. To achieve it, the firm combines innovative design with fine craftsmanship, while also committing itself to sustainability, social responsibility, and the creation of a positive, stimulating work environment.
Its primary goal, however, is to go beyond simply copying nature to harness it as a source of inspiration for unique designs, innovative textures, and new colors that stimulate architects and designers. Its formula requires that all surfaces are designed to the highest aesthetic standards, while being both pleasing to the eye and touch.
A good example is its new concrete-look Riga collection, which it showcased at Milan’s Salone del Mobile in 2024. The product – whose name is an acronym of Research, Inspiration, Graphic, Architecture – draws its inspiration from the interactions between its linear textures and light, the result of in-depth studies and experiments into the effects of light on different surfaces.
