Publications, research programs, exhibitions, films, podcasts, and other initiatives – 64 projects by individuals will receive grants from the Graham Foundation in 2023, for a total of USD 559,100. Selected from 500 submissions from around the world, these projects feature innovative and interdisciplinary ideas, and contribute critical perspectives on architecture and design. The projects were submitted by 92 people from different fields, including architects, designers, artists, curators, and writers. In July, the foundation will be announcing the projects submitted by organizations to win funding.
Among this year’s individual grantee projects, there are several of the installations featured at the Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by Leslie Lokko and open through November 26 at Giardini and Arsenale, including The Uhuru Catalogues by Thandi Loewenson, Textural Threshold Hair Salon: Dreadlock by Felecia Davis, Black City Astrolabe by Yolande Daniels, and Index of Edges by Huda Tayob. Grantee projects in the national pavilions include The Carpet House by Giovanni Bellotti, Alessandra Covini, and Adelita Husni-Bey in the Italian pavilion, curated by Fosbury Architecture; and Labor (Un)settlement and Migration Futures by NHDM: Nahyun Hwang and David Moon in the Korean pavilion, curated by Soik Jung and Kyong Park.
