Promoting prepainted metal as a sustainable, high-performance, and cost-efficient finishing solution is the mission of ECCA (European Coil Coating Association), which brings together around a hundred companies across Europe.
The ECCA Prepainted Metal Envelope Award, funded by ECCA and organized for the first time this year together with THE PLAN, aims to recognize outstanding projects that effectively use prepainted metal and demonstrate architectural excellence.
Applications for the ECCA Prepainted Metal Envelope Award 2025 are open until June 15. Eligible projects must be architectural works completed after January 1, 2020, and built in Europe, regardless of the geographic origin of the design studio. Participation is free and the text must be in English.
The contest includes three categories, based on the total surface area of the façade covered with prepainted panels:
● Small: up to 2,000 m²
● Medium: between 2,000 and 5,000 m²
● Large: over 5,000 m²
The façade cladding must fall into one of the following categories: Composite ACP, Honeycomb HCP, Standing Seam, Shingles, Insulated Panels, Sidings, Trapezoidals, Single Skin, and Cassettes.
The award is open to professionals (individuals or groups) working in architecture, urban planning, and engineering. Each participant or team may submit a maximum of three realised projects.
Projects will be evaluated based on five criteria: quality of the presentation materials, application of prepainted metal architectural components, concept illustration and design methodology, innovation in product design and project execution, and sustainability of the intervention.
A distinguished jury of industry experts will select a winner and two honorable mentions.
The winning project and honorable mentions will be published in a special volume dedicated to THE PLAN Award, scheduled for release in March 2026. Additionally, the winning project will also receive a two-page feature in THE PLAN magazine’s March 2026 issue, and the winning architect will be invited to join as Juror for the 2026 edition of the ECCA Prepainted Metal Envelope Award.
