Presented as a hybrid program of conceptual exhibitions and conferences, the Downtown Design’s 2020 new digital fair launches November 9th (until November 14th) during Dubai Design Week. The digital exhibitions will be displayed across digital and physical platforms and will comprehend a digital fair - featuring the latest collections from leading international and local design brands -, which offers both design professionals and enthusiasts the opportunity to reconnect with the thriving contemporary design scene; a virtual conferences program; and a conceptual design exhibition titled The Shape of Things to Come that features leading regional design studios as they explore how we will live, work and play in a post pandemic landscape, while highlighting the regional design industry’s response to the shifting attitudes towards how we will engage with our surroundings and the evolving concerns of our world.
In the multi-media exhibition The Shape of Things to Come, the studios that will present their work have been shortlisted from an open call. They all have been invited to submit projects ranging from a house designed for isolation, to a new approach to designing places of worship and malls re-imagined as cultural hubs of the future, to exploring how tech can propel design meaningfully and addressing the scope of culture and locality in providing forward-looking solutions.
