Cortina Design Weekend 2024
By Editorial Staff -

Following the success of last year’s first edition, Cortina Design Weekend returns this summer, Friday 12 – Sunday 14 July, with the theme of training. Organized by the Cortina for Us association in collaboration with THE PLAN, and presented with the support of the Cortina d’Ampezzo government, Cortina Design Weekend is all about enhancing the cultural wealth of Cortina through a series of events and meetings dedicated to design, architecture, and landscape, while offering professionals invaluable networking opportunities.

Three days dedicated to all things design, the event caters to business people and practitioners in the sector, while also appealing to design enthusiasts and people who simply love to vacation in this stunning location in the Dolomites. The event will spend July 12 and 13 in Cortina. Then, on Sunday 14, it will move to the former Eni Village in Borca di Cadore.

Dialogues on sports architecture

Formazione (Italian for “training”, the theme of this year’s event) means “to give form” but also “reform”, “deform”, and “transform.” Cortina Design Weekend 2024 will trigger new ideas on how design can define new kinds of relationships with the mountain territory by imagining solutions to enhance and protect the environment, and develop proactive models for interaction between people and objects.

Cortina Design Weekend 2024 will kick off with several sessions at the Grand Hotel Savoia, beginning on the morning of Friday, July 12. The centerpiece of the event, though, will be the session, organized by THE PLAN, entitled Sports Infrastructure: Architecture, Technology, and Mobility for Experiencing the Mountains in Summer and Winter. Moderating this roundtable event will be Francesco Chiamulera, creator and manager of Una Montagna di Libri (A mountain of books), an international literature festival based in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The speakers will be Marco Zardini, president of Impianti Dolomiti SuperSki; Stefano Lorenzi for Leitner SpA; Fabio Calorio for Pininfarina; Benedetto Camerana; Alessandro Zoppini; and Silvia Prandelli.

The session will focus on how sports infrastructure projects need to involve different disciplines and sensitivities to envisage a future that respects the mountains while also addressing the changes of today. In their discussion, the speakers, all professionals directly involved in the design and management of infrastructure and systems, will highlight the various perspectives that need to come together to achieve common goals.

Like last year, Cortina Design Weekend 2024 will include a series of parallel events, including installations around the local area and planned routes between stores, showrooms, art galleries, and antique stores focused on lifestyle and collecting. The event will also be a unique chance to take part in test drives organized by Audi, Cortina d’Ampezzo’s main partner.
