The experience that emerges from the research - concerning the post-earthquake reconstruction processes of the historic centers of the Emilia 2012 and Marche 2016 municipalities - is characterized by significant specificities connected to the characteristics of the destructive event, the legislative interventions adopted, and the model chosen for the reconstruction. The theme is to draw from the most significant planning practices recently experimented in different territorial contexts, the guidelines for the definition of new forms of sustainable planning in terms of administrative action and therefore of new territorial governance processes. The reconstruction is intended as a device for interaction between different subjects suitable for triggering the redevelopment of historic centres, affected by depopulation and abandonment, to promote internal dynamics of socio-economic recovery and encourage the integration between environmental protection and development policies for promote sustainable tourism. The book reflects on the specificity of the situation post-earthquake from the point of view of territorial planning, starting from some innovation experiments recently conducted, and outlining some possible lines of work for the near future.

Francesco Alberti

Architect and Ph.D, is Research Fellow (Rtda) in City and Regional Planning (SSD ICAR 20) at the Department of Architecture at the University of Ferrara (Italy) where he teaches Urban Planning, and Urban Planning and Territorial Analysis. He has taught at the Marche Polytechnic University, University of Urbino, University of Bologna and the Department of Engineering at the University of Ferrara. He coordinates and develops research activities on territorial planning at the Tel Aviv University (TAU), the Federal Polytechnic in Zurich (ETH), and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Paysage in Versailles (ENSP). He is a member of several national and international research groups, coordinating and participating in projects and research that focus on territorial governance and the relations between strategic planning and risk management.
