Imposing and visionary, the DCB Montana Business Center in Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, is a symbol of transformation and progress. This state-of-the-art building houses a wide variety of spaces, including modern offices, retail areas, art galleries, and food service areas, in a dynamic, multiuse environment. The project marks the first step toward the transformation of the Moste industrial area, now set to become a cutting-edge commercial district and new urban hub.
The DCB Montana Business Center was designed by Barcelona-based firm BAX, led by Boris Bežan and Mónica Juvera. The project features a dark glass façade punctuated by white brise-soleil elements set at different angles and arranged to allow for gentle, controlled filtered sunlight. With a total floor area of 20,670 sq. m, the complex spans ten above-grade floors and three below-grade parking levels. It features expansive spaces connected by a full-height central atrium, overlooked by balcony corridors that encourage user interaction. The striking foyer, which also provides natural ventilation, is finished in gold-anodized aluminum profiles that take on an iridescent appearance in sunlight while echoing the rhythm of the façade’s brise-soleil.

In reality, the complex comprises three buildings: one existing and two newly constructed, positioned opposite each other and connected by public spaces and architectural details such as chamfered corners. The tallest building, DCB Montana, was built first, together with the street-level garden. The tower’s distinctive rhomboidal form links it to the surrounding public space, where gardens are edged by benches laid out in curving patterns. It stands out for its compact form and the views across the city from its panoramic terraces.

Besides its imposing presence, the DCB Montana Business Center is distinguished by a strong commitment to sustainability. The project has achieved prestigious DGNB Gold certification and the A1 energy rating, making it one of Slovenia’s first sustainable office buildings. High-quality materials combined with active and passive solutions – including thermal insulation, shading, and natural lighting – have helped minimize environmental impact and promote responsible resource use. Flexible interiors also make it possible to configure offices according to user needs, while the expansive terraces and green areas support user well-being through a close connection to the outdoor environment.
With its contemporary architecture and dynamic geometries, advanced technologies, and strong commitment to the environment, the DCB Montana Business Center exemplifies how design can contribute to creating more efficient and sustainable work environments.
