Designed by the Canadian studio Reigo & Bauer, Glasgow Residence - a multi-level house in Kitchener, Ontario - arose from the need to align the home with the client’s lifestyle, creating a sequence of interconnected spaces dedicated both to social interaction and relaxation, in a carefully balanced relationship between visual openness and functional articulation.

From the very entrance, the project declares its design approach with a custom sculptural staircase. Made of welded white steel, the structure unfolds lightly through a double-height volume, featuring articulated treads and risers in its lower section and accompanied by a slender balustrade with a solid bronze handrail.
Next to the entrance, the living room maintains a dialogue with the existing structure through columns clad in rough stone, framing views of the surrounding woodland. The choice of a neutral palette enhances the quality of natural light, while furniture with sinuous forms and sculptural lighting fixtures help guide the eye, emphasizing spatial depth.
Acting as a connective device between spaces, an informal area serves as a hinge leading to the open-plan kitchen. A three-sided glass fireplace, suspended within a plastered volume, becomes the focal point of this space. The kitchen stands out for its deliberately essential approach, with ivory-colored handleless surfaces and a breakfast corner featuring a large table.
Material continuity on the entrance level is ensured by the widespread use of wide-plank oak flooring, which introduces warmth, and by limestone, used both as wall cladding and as an element in the steps leading to the living room.
The project extends to the basement level, also reimagined as an integral part of the domestic experience. A second white steel staircase, covered in caramel-colored carpet, leads to spaces dedicated to wellness and leisure.
The wine cellar is organized through a custom system in burnished steel for bottle storage, with a central limestone podium and a concealed refrigerated area. On the opposite side, a lounge area and a game room open onto the garden, while vertical surfaces are defined by grey-stained oak slats that create rhythm and depth through a play of shadows. The same material motif reappears in the bar area, in a lighter tone, ensuring visual continuity across different functions.
The overall sobriety of the color palette is enhanced by carefully placed accents in furnishings and accessories, which personalize the interiors without compromising their balance. It is precisely in the attention to detail and the precision of spatial choices that the quality of the project emerges: a work capable of defining the home’s identity through a coherent language, where every element contributes to creating a refined and contemporary living experience.
