Parklex interiors - Toughness and durability at the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum

Parklex uses natural wood for application to façades, floors and ceilings. The manufacturing process varies according to the end-purpose (indoor or outdoor linings, damp areas), but all products start from a high-density wood laminate formed inside of woodfibre treated with thermohardening resin and compressed under high pressure and temperature.
To line its gallery floors, walls and ceilings, Frank O. Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao used Parklex 2000 and Parklex 500, products with the same bamboo finish giving a fluid and spatially uniform effect.
Parklex 2000 is a floating natural wood parquet made from top-quality veneers impregnated by the Gureprex system which makes it much more abrasion-resistant, damp-proof, tough, scuff-proof and stable in size than varnished parquet. It is easy to clean and does not need frequent maintenance. Using it inside the museum has proved a winner: the floors are most resistant though they are always being washed by professional machinery and have large sculptures hauled across them.
Parklex 500, used on walls and ceilings, is a 100% natural woodfibre laminate which, amongst its other properties, is extremely noise-absorbent - a boon in rooms thronged by the public.
