The medieval castle in Septe sits scenically in the hills of Abruzzo. Following a lengthy restoration project designed by Ennio di Prinzio, it was turned into a hotel and declared a national heritage site by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. Mapei provided advisory services and technical assistance for waterproofing the terrace that some of the hotel suites open onto. Restoring the waterproof layer necessitated the demolition of the old floor and substrate to create a new unbonded screed layer sealed, in parts, using Mapeband rubber tape. The cracks in the screed were repaired using Eporip adhesive.
A double waterproof layer was created using Mapenet 150 glass fibre mesh and Mapelastic cement mortar. The ceramic tiles for the terrace were laid using Keraflex Maxi S1 adhesive and grouted with Keracolor GG. Mapei products were also used in creating the vertical and lateral drainage system, in sealing the metal rainwater pipes that cross the floor and in waterproofing the returns between the flat and horizontal surfaces.
