Sikkens’ Bright Skies™ is the color of the year 2022. This light, ethereal hue is an ideal interpretation of the optimistic spirit that is surging through the year ahead. After months of lockdown and isolation enforced by the pandemic, people are now starting to look to the future, to opening up, to large open spaces and to nature. In response, Bright Skies™ is a light and airy blue that has a fresh and invigorating feel, reflecting the color of the sky and providing an ideal solution for renovating interior spaces and exterior façades in multiple sectors, from residential to public spaces.
Each year a team of specialists from AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center, working with designers, architects and color experts, analyzes changes and emerging socio-economic trends across the globe to identify the color palettes and individual color for the year ahead. For 2022, the goal was specifically to share this share feeling that is starting to infuse this historic period, a time in which people are looking to reinvent their environments to make them more flexible and able to cater for changing needs, but by integrating nature into daily life and creating relaxing spaces. Four color palettes have been created using Bright Skies™, namely Greenhouse, Salon, Studio and Workshop, producing a wealth of opportunities to combine different shades. This is an exceptionally useful tool for designers as it gives them a complete array of colors that meet those new needs and requirements that have developed.
Like for the 2021 color of the year (Brave Ground™, a natural, harmonious brown), with Bright Skies™ and a wide range of hues, it is possible to create Alpha Unique by Sikkens, a water-based decorative finish for interior wall surfaces that has a minimalist, material, matt finish. Alpha Unique is a solution for very varied color requirements that can be used for any style of furnishing, making it possible to produce environments infused with a natural, essential feel.
