In New York, at the heart of Manhattan, within a historic building on Central Park West designed by Rosario Candela in 1929, this apartment embodies the perfect balance between elegance and sustainability.

Designed by Alec Holland, the space blends mid-century aesthetics with a contemporary language, creating an environment that celebrates art and incorporates carefully selected materials. The result is an intimate and refined home, immersed in the dynamic energy of the Big Apple.

The building that houses this apartment is one of the most prestigious examples of luxury urban residences in New York. Its privileged location, overlooking Central Park, offers unparalleled views and a sense of openness to one of Manhattan’s most iconic green spaces.Appartamento a New York ©Trevor Parker, courtesy of Alec Holland

This 392 m² penthouse, spread over two floors, celebrates the architectural beauty of the past while seamlessly integrating the comfort and functionality of a modern residence. Having grown up surrounded by iconic pieces from the 1950s, Holland has always appreciated the simplicity and clean lines of that era. However, his goal was to avoid an overly "vintage" aesthetic, introducing a contemporary vision into the design.

The project stands out for its use of natural materials, reflecting not only a precise aesthetic vision but also an ethical and sustainable commitment. The synthetic leather chosen for the seating and bed aligns with a vegan lifestyle, emphasizing the designer’s focus on conscious design.Appartamento a New York ©Trevor Parker, courtesy of Alec Holland

The living area is centered around a neutral palette, enriched by cream-colored fabrics and wooden details that add warmth and character to the space. An oriental-patterned rug introduces a dynamic element, while carefully curated artworks, sculptures, and objects infuse a personal and sophisticated touch, transforming the space into a narrative of style and culture.Appartamento a New York ©Trevor Parker, courtesy of Alec Holland

The apartment extends outdoors with a terrace overlooking Central Park, serving as a natural continuation of the interiors. Furnished with potted plants, flower beds, seating, and loungers, this urban oasis becomes an exclusive retreat, offering breathtaking views from the city skyline to the park’s vast greenery.
