Villa privata in Malta, imagined as a jagged stone with comfortable and contemporary interiors

The project, as can be seen from the initial design sketches, aspires to realize the idea of a jagged stone, almost a gem, which culminates at its highest and outermost point with a broad and expansive glass façade. This element serves to bring natural light deep into the faceted volume of the house. The contrast between a house conceived as a sculptural, almost lithic object, with its solid geometric hardness, and interiors designed instead as comfortable spaces tailored to a contemporary culture that proudly showcases its design, is the most immediate key to understanding a project that is complex and never predictable in its forms or architectural outcomes.

The context in which the villa was conceived is both natural and highly urbanized, dominated by a rocky wall into which the plot is carved. The architectural language of our project stems from the idea of the Mediterranean house, with its clean volumes and stereometric simplicity. A play of volumes generates a continuous shift in the orientation of rooms and living functions. This layout creates constant changes in perspective, both inside and out. Challenging to fully capture through photography due to the fragmentary nature of its views, the project reveals its true clarity on the top floor, where a terrace with a swimming pool extends to embrace the large V-shaped glass façade, marking the full width of the design and its seamless integration into the rock
This is the design of a villa organized over three levels, where the floors slide over one another, generating unexpected glimpses and perspectives. It’s a formal play, but also a way of engaging with the site — its rocky nature and sharp-edged geometries. The ground floor has a purely functional layout, housing the garage, home cinema, and technical rooms. The first floor, dedicated to the sleeping area, consists of three distinct volumes with different orientations, creating movement and variation on the façade. The second floor, the living area, opens like a fan with a large, expansive glass wall framing the landscape and reaching out toward the sea horizon.
