The concept stems from the need to transform an existing, regular volume into a modern, functional, and representative police command. We responded with a simple yet powerful gesture: a continuous line, made tangible through stretched metal mesh, which redefined the building’s identity across plans, façades, and sections. This gesture unifies the five key principles—operational efficiency, security, accessibility, sustainability, and hospitality—through a clear architectural language. The new skin, with insulated metal frames and thermal cladding, ensures energy performance and visual impact. The result is a civic landmark for Seregno, contemporary, efficient, and recognizably public.
The project asserts the institutional presence of the Seregno Local Police Headquarters, making it a recognizable and strategic public landmark within the city. The design strengthens its visibility with a dynamic façade featuring expanded metal sheets and insulated frames that interact with natural light and shadow. These metal elements are central not only on the exterior but also within the interior, visible through redesigned façades that engage in dialogue with entrance and exit canopies.Artistic anti-intrusion grilles shape the new windows, while profiled steel sheets define corridor thresholds, becoming a distinctive feature of the shared spaces. Volumetric clarity and material choices reinforce its authority, while the spatial layout enhances efficiency and controlled accessibility
The choice of painted metal for the building envelope responds to functional, aesthetic, and long-term performance needs. Lightweight yet strong, the material ensures structural efficiency and allows precise detailing. Its weather resistance reduces maintenance while its reflective quality enhances light and shadow. Combined with insulated frames and deep metal reveals, it reinforces the institutional presence of the Seregno Police Headquarters. Metal elements also allow for unusual, expressive forms that draw the eye, offering a new harmony of color, depth, and transparency. The result is a bold and durable architectural identity that remains impactful over time.
The project prioritizes sustainability through energy efficiency, material selection, and advanced technologies. The high-performance envelope features an external thermal insulation system combined with insulated metal window frames and deep insulated metal reveals to reduce thermal dispersion. Low-energy HVAC systems and LED lighting minimize consumption, while natural ventilation strategies enhance indoor comfort. Recycled and recyclable materials, compliant with CAM (Minimum Environmental Criteria) regulations, further reduce environmental impact. The project integrates security with sustainability, demonstrating a responsible approach to public architecture and earning recognition for its eco-compatibility.
The project for the Seregno Local Police Headquarters stands out for its ability to combine functionality, security, sustainability, and strong architectural identity. The spatial organization optimizes efficiency, ensuring clear circulation and controlled separation between public, staff, and restricted areas. Security is reinforced through access control, surveillance systems, and durable materials. The institutional presence is expressed through a contemporary design featuring insulated metal window frames and deep metal reveals, creating a dynamic façade that plays with light and shadow. Sustainability plays a key role, with a high-performance thermal insulation system, CAM-compliant materials, low-energy HVAC, LED lighting, and natural ventilation strategies. Great care was dedicated to the architectural language: each perspective, room, window, canopy, ramp, or portal was designed as a unique, distinctive feature. Nothing is generic. What could have been an anonymous public office is now a space with identity. It doesn’t look like a typical police facility—it communicates openness, presence, and dignity. Advanced technologies improve long-term performance, while refined materials and finishes consolidate its civic role. The result is a contemporary, efficient, and welcoming building—home to the police and a reference point for the entire community.
Roccatelier Associati is an architecture and engineering firm founded in Monza by architect Laura Rocca and engineer Stefano Rocca. It blends tradition and innovation through an organic and experimental design approach. Specializing in public works and private construction, it has received major awards, including the Dedalo-Minosse Under 40 in 1999 and the International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum in 2007. In 2012, it was featured in Eccellenza Italiana, with a foreword by President Giorgio Napolitano. The firm works in architectural design, structural engineering, restoration, interior design, and project management, focusing on the relationship between space and identity. Through dialogue with clients, each project is a unique piece that enhances its context with innovative solutions. Its multidisciplinary team ensures comprehensive, integrated design, adapting to the specific needs of each project.
