The concept emerged from the challenge of converting a former commercial space in central Rome into a functional, modern apartment, while preserving its historical essence. The project was driven by the desire to merge tradition with contemporary living. We focused on spatial innovation by introducing a sculptural metal staircase that optimizes vertical space while serving as a key visual element. Industrial materials such as exposed brick walls and visible services were carefully integrated to create contrast and balance. This dialogue between old and new defines the project’s identity.

SHARP is located in the historic heart of Rome, surrounded by centuries of architectural heritage. The project expresses the city’s dual identity, where history and modernity coexist. By preserving original structural elements, such as exposed brick walls, and introducing contemporary, industrial details, the apartment connects with its historic urban setting while offering a stylish, functional living space. The result is a unique balance of tradition and innovation that reflects both the character of Rome and the needs of modern life.
The project prioritizes sustainability by preserving exposed brick walls and structural elements, reducing material waste. Energy-efficient lighting, durable finishes, and low-impact materials were chosen to minimize environmental footprint. The open-plan layout, combined with large windows and reflective surfaces, maximizes natural light and ventilation, reducing energy use and enhancing comfort.
SHARP reimagines a 90m² former commercial space into a modern apartment that harmoniously blends industrial aesthetics with historical architecture. Key features include a sculptural metal staircase and mezzanine that optimize vertical space, creating distinct living, working, and sleeping areas. Exposed brick walls preserve the building’s heritage while contemporary materials, custom finishes, and innovative lighting solutions transform the once dark interior into a bright, inviting home. The project embodies spatial efficiency, design elegance, and respect for the site’s Roman identity.
“We love how the design turned a small, dark space into a bright, functional home while preserving its historic charm. It truly feels unique and full of character.”
