The inspiration stems from a desire to rethink how people relate to one another within space. Instead of designing merely for function or form, we explored how space can dissolve distance and promote connection.
Natural systems—such as the formation of landscapes, the growth of ecosystems, and even the structure of the cosmos—influenced our spatial logic. We aimed to let architecture behave more like nature: adaptive, loose, and alive.

The landscape design of the outdoor dining area is our declaration to the city - Palermo. We employed curved forms to echo the urban morfology and typology. We used a fully open spatial layout to express the contemporary notion of “sharing.” Originally the project is situated at a street corner intersection, but we have been transform the site into a civic public space—freely accessible to surrounding residents.
This gesture not only reactivates public interaction in the area but also serves as a spatial offering to the urban identity of Palermo.
We used stainless steel and aluminum panels, both highly durable and 100% recyclable materials. Their longevity reduces the need for frequent replacement, minimizing resource waste. Soft curves were introduced to transform the cold rigidity of metal into a warm, fluid spatial experience. This strategy allowed us to avoid secondary surface treatments and adhesives, improving material efficiency and indoor air quality. The project prioritizes low-maintenance finishes, long life cycles, and reduced construction waste.
This project challenges the pervasive sense of confinement in contemporary spaces by rethinking how spatial design can reshape interpersonal relationships. Rather than reinforcing barriers, it seeks to dissolve them—inviting people to connect in new, more organic ways. The central design strategy, called “weak space,” reduces the spatial form’s control over user behavior. Rejecting rigid grids and axial systems, the design allows the space to evolve through subtle, underlying forces—much like forms found in nature.
The spatial layout unfolds as a metaphor for cosmic formation: two structural columns bloom into floral forms, from which flowing land-like surfaces emerge. These expand outward into islands, and eventually open into a surrounding “sea.” This narrative structure transforms the relationship between people and space into one that resembles elemental interactions in the natural world.
In this setting, dining becomes more than a daily act—it becomes a moment of reconnection between humans, space, and nature. Seating is no longer based on traditional face-to-face formats; instead, the environment encourages new social dynamics and spatial freedom.
The floral columns inspired by natural elements make this space truly stand out in Sicily. It’s an innovative design that immediately drew attention—especially from young customers. The opening was a big success.
