The project's idea originated from a desire to revitalize urban spaces for community engagement. During our initial exploration of the four oil tanks, their unique industrial aesthetic sparked the vision for a cultural hub. We ensured the design addressed community needs while respecting industrial context. Our concept focused on preserving the tanks’ heritage, harmonizing the old structures with creative, modern uses that foster interaction and connection. Each design decision aimed to amplify the relationship between visitors and the revitalized environment, turning industrial relics into vibrant gathering spaces.

Park created for the community

The project fosters a dynamic relationship between the oil tanks and Changzhou’s urban landscape by promoting connectivity and interaction. The regeneration seamlessly integrates with the city, creating fluid transitions between urban and green spaces. A carved walkway links the silos to an adjacent park, enhancing community engagement. Features like a circular climbing structure attract visitors, while the tanks serve as cultural and social anchors. This design strengthens the connection between industrial past and contemporary urban life, offering a destination that serves the community, enriching the urban ecosystem.

A path through the center of the silos

Sustainability is central to our project, reflected in our design choices and materials. We preserved existing tank structures to limit the need for new resources and enhance eco-friendliness. Natural lighting improves aesthetics and reduces energy use. A glass house introduces passive ventilation to avoid overheating while minimizing visible technology. We used locally inspired bricks and salvaged tank steel for walkways, promoting resource efficiency. Our project has received commendation from the local environmental council, showcasing our dedication to sustainable urban development in Changzhou.

A ray of sunlight from the top

Our project transforms four historic oil tanks into a vibrant community hub that embodies Changzhou's heritage while fostering cultural engagement. The design maintains the original industrial architecture, allowing for versatile spaces that host diverse events. A curated journey through the tanks enhances visitor exploration, with each silo offering unique experiences. Utilizing natural light and climate-responsive strategies reflects our commitment to sustainability. The revitalized tanks serve as a testament to innovation, enriching urban life and connecting residents to Changzhou’s rich history, inspiring a lively future.

Untouched and un-programmed silo
This project embodies our collaborative spirit and commitment to the community. By preserving the tanks while embracing innovative design, we've created an environment that fosters social interaction and enriches urban life. "People face a lot of stress from work and daily life. If our oil tank park can offer a moment of mental relief, we would be truly proud”, says Mr. Yao, owner of Cotton Park.
