A Penthouse in Milan’s Bosco Verticale Tower

COIMA SGR's request to complete the only duplex unit in the two Bosco Verticale towers led us to develop a concept that emphasizes above all the relationship with nature, rising from the 16th floor to the 17th, and from there to the tower's top.
The connection between the two levels is defined by an organically shaped staircase, both in form and finish, where the lime-plastered handrail becomes a tactile experience in itself. The interior and exterior are integrated not only visually, but also through the use of materials and large sliding glass panels.

The unit was rustic and, considering that in the Bosco Verticale each layout is unique, we started from the terraces and we generated the interior rooms. It is a process contrary to the usual one, that we used since the beginning of the design of all tower units. The decision to place the living area on the highest floor came from this perspective, from the presence of the two corner terraces that became one the extension of the kitchen and the other one of the living room. Each room was designed from the view to the outside, placing all the functions based on the view and lighting.

Designed to support oxygen production and reduce urban pollution, the building also promotes biodiversity and earned LEED Gold certification thanks to an integrated, energy-efficient approach. Heating and cooling use groundwater, drawn via wells and returned underground. Systems are managed by a BMS and use a mixed air-water setup: water terminals handle heating/cooling loads, while primary air manages ventilation and humidity. An Energy Center powered by open-cycle geothermal energy produces thermal fluids, ensuring top energy efficiency and sustainability.

Living room and terrace

The choice of a slatted, grooved wood ceiling inspired the use of marble flooring—a contrast that defines the space with character while keeping it warm. The gridded marble pattern extends from the common and living areas into all bathrooms, expressed in varying types and layouts. A large, linear, angular fireplace connects the lounge and living spaces, enhancing comfort and continuity.

The living area flows seamlessly into the kitchen and opens onto the day zone through a full-height sliding panel with a sculptural liquid metal finish, echoed in the conversation area’s custom paneling. Each furnishing piece is bespoke, developed through mock-ups and careful material sampling.

The kitchen features the same oak wood as the ceiling, reinforcing visual continuity, while the countertops match the natural stone used for flooring, adding timeless elegance. Light enhances the dialogue between stone and wood, and the palette reinforces a sense of organic flow.

The staircase connecting the two floors continues the material theme, with warm Ambrosia marble paired with Brioni lime walls and liquid metal railings. The lower level becomes more intimate, with soft-toned carpeted floors leading to “private suite” bedrooms and a cozy, reserved family living space. Textures and light from the large windows overlooking Milan create a unique, refined atmosphere.

A unique interior design project focused on aesthetic and material research, as well as diverse living inspirations. The concept aims to celebrate the connection between human, nature, and architecture through a process that reverses the conventional approach. Each room was designed starting from the views to the outside, positioning functions and elements according to the landscape, light orientation, and visual perspective.
