The overall building volume is 1580 square meters. My original design concept is that when the building is shaped, the relative interior is also completed. Because the idea I want to pursue is Zen aesthetics, try to de decorate, and can approach a spiritual realm, so when designing a building, I pay special attention to the structure of its entire space.
I am breaking away from the traditional practice of building well before doing indoor work, so I need to think comprehensively from the inside out throughout the entire construction process.

The side view is usually the place where people flow in, so I use low windows to create another kind of privacy and another visual realm. In fact, this is also the inspiration that designers draw from the small landscapes in traditional Chinese painting, introducing the concept of "immersing oneself in a painting". With low, narrow, and long small windows, only a small piece of the outdoor scenery is cut off and placed indoors. From small to large, from rare to many, it is subtle and meaningful, creating a serene and distant atmosphere.
I also made two layers of glass boxes in the building, creating a private room space in a more modern and contemporary style, floating on the water. Therefore, the entire building has a Song style, a more ancient style, and a more contemporary modern style.
In addition to the architectural and interior design according to the architecture, I also hope that there will be some more narrative expressions in the design. Therefore, we extracted a unique bird species in the botanical garden - the blue magpie - as a device for us to wander in this space. We invited artists to create blue magpies with different postures, and then they flew and swam in the space, representing a story of our slow movement from the first floor to the second floor, It also makes the space richer.
I also use lines to make changes to the indoor scale, such as on one side of the U-shaped water bar counter, where the countertop extends straight to the staircase and transforms into one of the steps.
The project is located in the Botanical Garden of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Before the renovation, it was a two-story brick and tile office building. After the renovation, it will be two and a half stories and used for the operation of a high-end Hangzhou style restaurant.
When I first thought about the external appearance of his entire building, I was thinking about the visual and psychological relationship between humans and nature. Therefore, I made several different styles or forms of configurations. For example, on the back of the entire building, it faces a large lawn. So I extracted the style of Song Yun and embedded it in modern architecture in the form of ancient architectural sketches, making the entire building incredibly beautiful, But with a humble attitude, the conversation is entirely natural.
I hope to turn the restaurant into a dimly lit theatrical space, bringing diners from fast-paced urban life into a slow and comfortable atmosphere. I hope they can relax in such an environment, and we hope diners can relax and get close to nature here, returning to a peaceful life.
