The project originated from Franco Moschini’s desire to bring back to light Villa Gabrielli, a building protected by the Architectural Heritage Superintendence and a symbol of Tolentino’s economic, social, cultural development. The work involved many interventions for the recovery and conservative restoration of the building. The project resulted in the creation of a contemporary design hotel with a strong and unique identity: each room is inspired by a master architect who has collaborated with Franco Moschini or one of the companies he owned, with common areas unifying the spatial and emotional narrative. Designers such as Michele De Lucchi, Marc Newson, Gae Aulenti, Vico Magistretti, Giò Ponti, and Achille Castiglioni are represented through settings, lines, prints, and iconic pieces.

Interno Marche Design Hotel is located in the centre of Tolentino, its renovation has led to the redevelopment of the street, creating a new attraction. In fact, a new cultural centre has developped with the nearby Politeama Theatre. Its design can be a symbol of rebirth after the 2016 earthquake that hit the region and the city of Tolentino, causing many buildings to become uninhabitable, including Villa Gabrielli itself.
The project revisits and modernizes some materials used in the original construction era of Villa Gabrielli(1920s) such as graniglia (concrete paving), metal frames and structures and brick. The project focused on using low-emission materials (e.g. cork insulating plasters) with certified EPD and LCA life cycles and installing systems to ensure proper air recycling and quality, providing high levels of comfort.
The project adhere to the ideals of the Italian Green Building Council to make Interno Marche a model of “sustainable reconstruction. Earned the Platinum level of Certification of GBC Historic Building® and LEED V4 for Hospitality”. The GBC Historic Building protocol of is to historical buildings. The LEED certification is the world standard for eco-friendly constructions.
Interno Marche is a hospitality project that serves as a tribute to entrepreneur Franco Moschini, who through Poltrona Frau and brands such as Cassina, Cappellini, Zanotta, and Gebrüder Thonet Vienna (of which he is still President), has helped spread Made in Italy worldwide.
Each environment tells the story of the interpreters of design through rigorous philological research. The structure is proposed as a house-museum where visitors can travel through styles and furnishings that have shaped interior design history. Every room, object, over 400 pieces, both authored and custom, illustrate atmospheres and authors through the interior design and graphic setup. Iconic furnishings, carefully selected to best convey each author’s poetic, are presented in their original versions and finishes; alongside them, custom furniture was designed and produced to perfect the functional equipment of the common areas and individual rooms. The historical soul of the building has been combined with a deeply contemporary interior design intervention. A "sustainable reconstruction" model has been adopted, making Interno Marche the first hotel in the world to benefit from the double sustainability certification GBC Historic Building and LEED V4 for hospitality. This demonstrates that it is possible to carry out a contemporary architectural intervention in a historical building, combining aesthetic and poetic aspects with technical ones, as demonstrated by internationally recognized certifications.
