Gongchangling Resort enhance the existing hotel and wellness program of the hot spring resort in the city of Gonchangling with a contemporary high-end hotel building that will integrate all essential components of a modern spa center. The new development is envisioned as both an architectural landmark and a new tourist attraction for the greater Liaoyang region in China. The building forms a sculptural landscape of stacked, undulating volumes wrapped in rhythmic vertical louvers. The flowing façade recalls rock strata and terraced hillsides. Drawing from traditional Chinese architecture, the design employs vertical layering, floating platforms, and suspended balconies to create spatial hierarchy and evoke a symbolic upward journey.

The project is conceived as a natural extension of the surrounding park landscape. Its architecture flows with the terrain, using organic forms and natural materials to ensure harmony with the environment. A central axis aligns with the landscape, guiding visitors through spaces that blend indoor and outdoor experiences. The design emphasizes calmness, integration, and visual connection to the hills, river, and seasonal changes — offering a tranquil escape while subtly enriching the local identity.

Although the building design appears highly complex and intricate on the first glance, it is in fact based on very simple construction and design principles. Through careful and deliberate application, these principles generate the desired sense of complexity, while at the same time ensuring the project’s feasibility and economic rationality in terms of construction and execution. The building is generally organized into several distinct zones: a basement level housing service and technical facilities with parking spaces for employees; a public program distributed across the first two floors, with a semi-public infinity terrace on the third floor; and a series of vertical towers, each accommodating a specific function. These include two guestroom towers, a medical program tower and a wellness tower. The most destiguing carateristic of new facility is its playful facade, designd of layered, undulating forms made from intersected planes of round vertical slats. The horizontal waves ripple across the facade in an organic rhythm, reminiscent of natural landforms of mountain ridges and flowing water - motifs deeply resonant with traditional Chinese design principles.

Bio

Enota was founded in 1998 with the ambition to create contemporary and critical architectural practice of an open type based on collective approach to development of architectural and urban solutions. Constant changes and new complex situations in the world around us drive us to think about new architectural and urban solutions. In order to be able to produce answers to those new questions we believe it’s time to surpass the boundaries of conventional discipline set mainly by our cultural backgrounds. Enota’s team of architects focuses on research driven design of the environment where study of contemporary social organizations and use of new technologies are interwoven to produce innovative and effective solutions. Enota’s solutions are strongly influenced by research, reinterpretation and development of social, organizational and design algorithms that derive from nature. The result is always a strong binding of the buildings with the environment that surrounds them.
