The Architectural Design & Research Institute of Zhejiang University (UAD)

This project aims at promoting the economic and social development of Haiyan County. Therefore, it is of great significance for building a livable city, improving urban functions and enhancing the sense of happiness of the people. The architects put forward the design concept of "hiding in the wild" and emphasize the integration of the building with the landscape. The building responds to functional requirements through clear and concise volumes to achieve a simple and practical effect. In terms of the landscape, the deliberate creation of slope variations enables the large roof to be combined with the slope terrain to create an open outdoor activity space to facilitate citizens' daily participation.

This project in Tianxianhu Park in Haiyan County enjoys unique natural landscape resources. The east part of the building houses the theater and the cultural center, while the west part houses the youth palace and the new era civilization practice center. The building height is controlled to be three to four stories high. The roof of the first floor is covered with soil to create a green terrace that connects with the soil slope of the park on the west side to serve as an extension of the park area and a venue for citizens' activities. The second floor and the space above are clearly arranged into three distinct architectural blocks with different themes and functions.

Based on the full utilization of landscape resources, the design fully activates the vitality of the site from two dimensions of the ground and the roof. The large-scale ground-floor layout can meet the hub function of the multi-functional cultural complex, create more entrances and exits, and enhance accessibility. The rooftop greening on the first floor is integrated with the park landscape, as a result, the travel paths and outdoor activity spaces can be introduced onto the rooftop platform, the park space is extended and the integration of the building with the natural landscape is strengthened.

When it comes to facade design, the main material color of the center is in perfect harmony with the landscape of Tianxian Lake. The light-colored stone and glass curtain wall used on the facade, combined with the champagne-colored metal lines, bring a modern and pure urban image. From an aerial perspective, the diamond-shaped top glass curtain wall, together with the night scene lights, creates a unique "lighthouse in the lake" effect.

After the project is completed, all the areas of this center will be integrated organically and open to the public for free. This will further optimize Haiyan County’s cultural resources and infrastructure layout, enhance urban quality, and enrich residents’ cultural lives.
