Ruyuan Restaurant is located in Hangzhou Botanical Garden, where the natural atmosphere is rich and beautiful. Nature is always the most beautiful design, so designers believe that the architecture here should be very secretive and integrated into the environment, rather than jumping out of the environment. Designers take "nature" as the starting point, cherish, recognize, maintain, and organize the natural elements of the site, while weaving architecture as a new element into the environment, thus forming a new landscape.
The building covers an area of approximately 500 square meters, with a total building volume of 1580 square meters. The building has three floors, with straight and deep ridges, wide overhanging mountain tops, and a highly cubist outline.

Because the building is located in the heart of a botanical garden, the designer considered the visual and psychological relationship between humans and nature. The horizontal lines on the surface of the building can effectively lower people's visual perception, making the building appear very humble in this environment.
Hangzhou is also a city with a strong cultural atmosphere of the Song Dynasty. Designer Liu Ronglu takes modern ecology as the principle and extracts the aesthetic characteristics of Song style architecture. He integrates the attic elements of Southern Song Dynasty pavilions into contemporary architecture in the form of artistic pieces, making the entire building very beautiful.
The designer made two layers of glass boxes in the building, introducing natural beauty and light at a 270 degree angle, allowing people to blend in with nature. In addition, the building has reserved a glass courtyard in advance to introduce light and sunlight, and to support the maple trees planted in the staircase courtyard on the first floor.
Building roof tiles are recycled ceramic tiles from other demolished old buildings in Hangzhou, and the resources are recycled and reused to rejuvenate old objects.

In terms of architectural design, designer Liu Ronglu takes modern ecology as the principle and embeds common elements of pavilions and towers from the Southern Song Dynasty into contemporary architecture in the form of small pieces. The interior of the ancient building adopts traditional Eastern craftsmanship - mortise and tenon structure, which retains a sense of antiquity in a modern sense, with exquisite and comfortable texture. Unlike the robust architectural style of the Tang Dynasty, the roofs and corners of buildings in the Southern Song Dynasty have a rising trend, giving people a soft and dynamic feeling. The wood color added to the cold modern architecture, with its simplicity and warmth, is also a manifestation of Zen aesthetics.
On the front of the building, the designer made two extended glass boxes that float above the water, creating the ultimate feeling of dining on the water. The application of horizontal stripes on the back of the building makes the entire building visually shorter, with an incredible beauty and a humble attitude that speaks to the entire nature.
This building is both modern and contains traditional culture, just like the Hangzhou style cuisine I make, which seeks standards from ancient books, inspirations from the four seasons, and then innovates and iterates. I want a restaurant that breaks traditional limitations and allows guests to enjoy nature and culture. My designer has achieved this.
