The idea for Fashion Valley’s revitalization was rooted in honoring the rich cultural and environmental context of San Diego. Inspired by the nearby San Diego River, mild coastal climate, and the region’s historic gardening tradition, the concept evolved into a dynamic, open-air retail destination. The design team looked to the legacy of local modernist architect Irving Gill for architectural inspiration—emphasizing simplicity, timelessness, and a refined palette. The result is a seamless blend of landscape and architecture that supports retail, leisure, and community engagement

Fashion Valley’s design creates a seamless relationship between the built environment and its surrounding natural and urban context. Set near the San Diego River, the project incorporates native landscaping, shaded walkways, and resort-style outdoor amenities that reflect the region’s climate and lifestyle. Public art and gathering spaces invite community interaction and support local culture. The architecture and landscacpe elevate the retail experience into a cohesive urban oasis.
