Ned’s Club Washington, DC introduces a new kind of members club to the city—one that reimagines luxury through a deeply rooted sense of place. From the moment a member steps inside to the moment they depart, the experience is immersive, intentional, and distinctly local. Building on the global success of The Ned brand, Soho House set out to craft a bold new iteration—infused with character and elegance—in the heart of Washington, DC just steps from the city’s iconic landmarks. Our vision was to create a true destination where professionals and locals alike could feel both connected to the city yet removed from its daily bustle. The result is three floors of historically inspired, breathtaking public spaces that celebrate the spirit of DC while offering a refined urban retreat.

Walker Building Entrance

Ned’s Club takes inspiration from the distinct, historic façades of the Art Deco Walker Building and the Neo-Classical American Security Bank Building—two structures that were internally unified by the architecture team to create a seamless interior. The immaculately preserved exteriors, representative of different eras in Washington, DC’s architectural history, served as the foundation for the Ned’s Club design narrative. The three original, Egyptian-inspired, brightly colored mosaics above the Walker Building’s club entrance also became a vital source of inspiration. Additional design elements pay homage to the Capitol landmarks visible from Ned’s Club, including the Washington Monument, historic White House designs, the Treasury Building, and the city’s iconic cherry blossom trees.

Lobby with Custom de Gournay Wallcovering

Walker Salon Event Space

The design of Ned’s Club Washington, DC draws from the glamour of the Roaring Twenties and the city’s rich history. The stately interiors complement the architecture of the two historic, interconnected buildings housing the club, featuring Art Deco details, De Stijl-inspired patterns, mixed metals, and custom mosaic floors throughout. Guests enter through geometric metal doors into a lobby wrapped in hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper, referencing DC’s iconic cherry blossoms. The original lobby entrance was preserved, blending historic charm with modern luxury. On the ninth floor, the Meetings & Events level includes the Walker Salon—a double-height, multifunctional space with a raised balcony, Art Deco railing, and dramatic chandeliers. On the tenth-floor Members Level, the Library features vintage mantels, moody lighting, and bold striped wallcoverings inspired by the Obama White House—serving as a serene daytime workspace and a lively evening bar. The Founders Dining Room offers sweeping city views, stained-glass windows, and a solarium-style ceiling. Moving to the Drawing Room, a stately stone fluted fireplace compliments latticed ceiling millwork and hardwood floors. The Gallery Restaurant, inspired by the Kennedy-era White House and complete with custom mosaic floors, opens into a lush glass conservatory through original archways. Atop it all, on the twelfth-floor rooftop, the restaurant Kaia offers panoramic views, an abstract ceiling mural, and rich, layered fabrics.

When the design team approached this project, the space was primarily white box office space. Our design team worked intensively to create a space, virtually from scratch, that felt luxurious, historically inspired, and above all, cohesive. To achieve this, we focused on the details; millworkers, numerous artists, glassblowers, and many more craftspeople were brought in to design intricate, built-in details throughout that bring luxury and character to the forefront of the member experience.
