The idea behind Flat 6 was to make the most of the building's peripheral windows and create a balcony that not only expanded the living space but also instilled a sense of warmth and coziness in the apartment. In addition to this, the balcony would allow the apartment's occupants to enjoy the stunning views that the building had to offer. To achieve this, the design team worked to ensure that the balcony was spacious enough to accommodate furniture while still leaving enough room for people to move around comfortably. The end result was a stunning balcony that provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city streets below, allowing the apartment's occupants to relax, unwind, and enjoy some peace and quiet in the comfort of their own home.
A generous covered terrace delineates the apartment perimeter in two of its sides, mediating the dialogue between the more intimate spaces and the horizon surrounding them. The living room, embraced by a soulful bookshelf, open itself to the terrace in front through a wooden portico - that frame each of its ambiences: a bar, a firepit lounge and a backgammon table. On the terrace’s corner, the bar meets a grand piano, usually played by the owner and his friends on a typical Brazilian “roda de samba”.
The continuity between Flat 6`s spaces is enhanced by the constant finishings: the flooring, a dark grey basaltine stone and the wooden panels that evolve not only the porticos, but all doors and bookshelf. The decoration adds a layer of tactility to each corner of the apartment. A mixture of contemporary and vintage pieces already owned by the couple blends harmonically with the sober finishings and adds a touch of color to the apartment. Flat 6 was finalist at the Dezeen Awards in the apartment interior category.
Flat 6 continuous veranda gains a more familiar atmosphere around the corner, punctuated by a couple of study desks and cozy armchairs. The TV room and bedrooms, in face, can open and close themselves to this collective ambience through the portico’s slatted wooden doors. A mixture of contemporary and vintage pieces already owned by the couple blends harmonically with the sober finishings and adds a touch of color to the apartment. It includes great Brazilian vintage pieces and known designs such as Jorge Zalszupin Senior chairs, Onda bench Lenço side table and Giuseppe Scapinelli armchairs. Contemporary designs punctuate the compositions with bold pieces such as Paola Navone’s Nepal Little Armchair. But, after all, we may say the main element of this project is none of the above. What wraps up it all is the bright sunlight that gets in through the apartment’s windows and the lace curtain that embraces them. Developed by the owner herself, the perforated artisanal fabric acts like a soft mashrabya, filtering the sunlight and creating shadow drawings throughout the apartment. Natural light warms up every piece and every corner, letting the woods, the velvets and the stones speak louder.

Studio MK27 located in city of São Paulo was founded in the late 70’s by architect Marcio Kogan and today is comprised of 50 architects and various collaborators worldwide. Kogan is an honorary member of the AIA (American Institute of Architecture) and Professor at Politecnico di Milano. He leads a team of architects who, for the most part, have been working with him for over a decade. The team, coordinated by four directors, is constituded by three main squads: the interior design team, lead by Diana Radomysler, the architecture team, lead by Suzana Glogowski and Renata Furlanetto and the communications team, lead by Mariana Simas. The team, great admirers of the Brazilian modernism generation, seeks to fulfill the task of rethinking and giving continuity to this iconic architectural movement. The projects of Studio MK27 place value on formal simplicity and attention to details. In 2025 Studio mk27 will represent Brazil at Expo Osaka, designing the new edition of the pavilion.
