Taoli Chunfeng Kindergarten is located in Lin'an, Hangzhou.It covers an area of 7,300 square meters with a building area of 5,500 square meters. This project was completed in 2018 and has been put into use. The core idea of the design is to integrate the architecture and the environment, and bring a new teaching and spatial experience to the children. From exterior to interior, The whole building is a combination of learning corners. Children can run around the curve walls and gather at their individual favorite spots. This project provides not only a better learning unit, but also reshapes a better environment of the campus.
The architect explored a series of spatial and plane combinations, focusing on creating the atmosphere rather than the building itself. In this case, the architect designed a large area of outdoor space to gather all teaching and entertainment activities under a big roof. This space provides children with more flexible combinations of activities and allows them to play in it.
The architect found that curve walls will make a subtle enclosure and free the space from homogeneity. The flowing white curved eaves connect the warm-toned wooden movable units in series, with a slight gap between the units, which draws in the lush mountain landscape behind, the architecture and the environment reflect each other. We use the effect to reengage the campus environment and enhance the quality of space.
In the circular activity room unit, the space is divided into many kinds of activity space through geometric division . The main space is transparent on three sides and adopts rhythmic bay windows. The bay window sill is located outdoors, where children can play and rest. At the same time, the arc-shaped space greatly reduces the sharpness of the edge of the space, and fundamentally solves the possibility of preventing children from hitting the edge of the wall. The big tree in the courtyard is a spiritual place for children. Some important activities are carried out here, children learning and growing in nature.
Architecture is to assist education, and the purpose is to make education more effective. Only through building a real educational environment can children feel it. We hope that the spirit and vitality expressed by architecture will be long-lasting, even as time goes by. The surface has been eroded or peeled off, but this kindergarten can still stand quietly and motionlessly in the changing world of light, shadows, clouds, and water.
