Shenyang Luen Mei Sales Center, a renovation that can inherit regional culture

Located in the south of northeast China, Shenyang has many cultural relics of Ming and Qing dynasties, including Mukden Palace. It is one of the Chinese cities with the most world cultural heritages except Beijing. Shenyang is also one of the most important industrial bases in China since modern times.

The building form of the original sales center is obsolete and the space of outdoor balcony is used with low efficiency. The position of the air conditioner is relatively obvious, and the decorative louver of the exterior facade has not played its role. The physical wall at the entrance is large, affecting indoor functions. The designer suggested to use other air conditioning form to ensure the effect of the building external façade design. The redundant decorative components of the building have been removed, leaving a concise impression through the simple and graceful design language. The main structure of the building is steel structure, and the external structure is mostly decorative components, which is convenient for demolition and reconstruction. The building roof is sloping roof, suitable for Chinese northern climate environment. It is suggested to keep the original steel structure system as far as possible and adjust the design partially according to the needs. Keep the structure of the original sloping roof, and make appropriate increase or decrease according to the needs.

According to the characteristics and culture of Shenyang, the designers aim to make renovation that can inherit regional culture and highlight brand characteristics. The general idea of the renovation is to retain the original building roof and main steel structure, remove the west side balcony and its supporting steel column, and remove the east side roof overhang eaves and its steel diagonal bracing. The basic structure and roof of the external facade could be preserved and construct building surface along the roof outer contour after. By doing this, the risk of reporting for construction application again could be avoided and indoor use space could also be increased.

The external facade uses broken line and cut surface to highlight the architectural shape and make it a regional landmark. The main entrance is centered but asymmetrical, breaking the overall symmetry of the building and giving a refreshing feeling. The irregular folding aluminum plate enhances the entrance image, the wiredrawing aluminum plate and the rose gold aluminum alloy door frame reflect the noble quality. Two kinds of glass with different transparency (hollow transparent glass and hollow coated glass) were used to enhance the guidance feature of the entrance.

The interior space planning is inspired by the "industrial" attribute of Shenyang, combining the steel structure style in the original building, and using weathering resistant steel to create a fashionable art space with rich texture. Some original columns are removed or displaced to expand the empty area (136㎡ to 152.5㎡). The utilization rate of space is increased and the overall sense of modeling is enhanced, with its own brand characteristics. However, the requirements for the construction team's professional speciality are stricter.

The reception area uses the marble material for reception desk and the background wall, with the wide stripe rugged texture. The ceiling adopts wood grain aluminum board and the suspended ceiling uses the dark gray archaistic bricks with grain, creating antique finish of industry style. The sand table uses wood veneer material and the background wall continues to use gray archaistic bricks. The irregular linear chandelier of the ceiling increases the sense of space art and fashion. The staircase uses aureate border and brunet glass armrest and each step has light belt to bring light. The staircase goes in broken line, consistent with the overall keynote. The surface of the bar desk is made of grey archaistic bricks, and body of the desk is decorated with glass bricks, presenting a historical sense like ancient city wall, which works in concert with the above trapezoidal ceiling. The sofas and seats of the negotiation area all adopt irregular shape. The large floor-to-ceiling windows face the scenery outside the sales center, with good lighting. The white aluminum plate of the ceiling further enhances the brightness of this space forming a light and dark distinction with the bar area and sand table area. The wall of work method show area is divided by irregular geometry line, with white setting wall, making the space bright, fashionable and angular.
