The luxurious W Hotel - The Palm by Ateliers Jean Nouvel is a key development on Dubai’s famed Palm Jumeirah artificial island. The curved shapes of the island are seamlessly mirrored by the hotel, an allusion to the gentle lines of the coast and sand dunes that stand in stark contrast to the hard geometric shapes of the skyline in the background. The sumptuous interiors of the complex were designed down to the smallest detail by interior design practice DWP, with innovative materials from TREND Group. The entrance tunnels and reception area are embellished with mosaics made using the traditional Venetian smalti technique, originally conceived by Fornace Orsoni Venezia 1888. The drop-off area for the hotel is adorned with striking mosaics from the Liberty collection that, using golden hues from white to yellow, evoke the sublime sunsets enjoyed on Dubai’s beaches. At the heart of this composition is a section made of 24-carat gold that really exalts the already captivating light, a symbolic reference to the sun reflecting off the water. After the arrivals areas, two tunnels embellished with a color palette inspired by nature guide visitors into the luxurious depths of the hotel, complete with numerous pools, a spa and a restaurant where the menu is designed by famed chef Massimo Bottura. Each of these spaces has a specific design solution that is both unique and evocative. The Away Spa has, for example, mosaic tesserae from TREND Group’s Shining series, helping to create the perfect sense of relaxation for guests through a combination of iridescent hues of blue, green and violet. These are then enhanced through the gently echoing sound and soft light. The feel at Torno Subito - Bottura’s restaurant with a distinct 1960s Italian Riviera look - is quite different. The cuisine and furnishings swoosh guests away from Dubai, into another time and place, although without any loss in luxury and relaxation. The work top for the restaurant was made with Trend Origina, for which the color was customized to perfectly match the lively atmosphere dominated by pastel tones. The other counters are also curved and rounded, once again using Trend Origina, meeting the demanding quality and aesthetic requirements needed to ensure every guest is happy. Overall, every solution was carefully selected to guarantee each environment had its own unique style, while adding to the impeccable atmosphere of staying here in Dubai.
