The campus is made up of four main components: A 15-storey tower as staff residence, a 8-storey twowing block as student dormitory, a 5-storey academic block and a 4-storey administration block. Equipped with a library, a canteen, a swimming pool, an indoor multi-purpose hall, a 200 m running track and various open green fields that stitch through the campus, the boarding school provides stateof-the-art campus life to a total number of 2400 students. As a very short time was given for the design of the school (6 weeks), we felt that giving a strong identity for this new campus was very crucial to:
1. Create a lasting memory of the primary school
2. Fostering a sense of identity amongst the students (1st batch)
3. Attracting student enrolment from not only the immediate neighbourhood but from the larger metropolitan area (this area is a relatively newly constructed new town in Shunde).
With the use of local face brick and employing diagonal rhombus patterns weaving throughout the facades with horizontal banding, an easily identifiable new building is born as a landmark that stands out in the new district.
The Campus was laid out in a very systematic way from accommodating the basic population, to the setback distances between the blocks; to the fire escape requirements, each playing a crucial determining factor to how the blocks were set out. However, the academic quad (campus) at the centre of the school is delibrately designed for the school morning assembly and activities like sports day and large scale performances, graduation day ceremony ...etc. It's formal strategy reminds one of most major academic institution and thus fostering a memorable identity of the campus.
Total construction period took 11 months.
