Situated on a rectilinear plot, the building regulations prevalent necessitated adherence to the plot profile while restricting the height to 4 levels thereby constricting the building envelope in all 3 dimensions.
The 3 lower levels of the building house retail spaces arranged in a rectilinear grid echoing the planned streets of Gandhinagar where the building is situated.
The topmost level houses a 4 screen Cineplex. The entire building façade is created with a rectilinear composition of faceted glass reinforced panels as a secondary skin to reduce the heat gain from the outside since average temperatures in the location are in excess of 40˚c through 8 months of the year.
The angled facets forming each exterior panel also serve to reduce the opening to the outside while accessing the glass area and creating more protection from the excessive sunlight prevalent.
These faceted modules are interpreted on the internal volumes carrying the architectural language inside in the main lobby and the cinema lobby area.
The cinema lobby has a white palette with an abstract composition of facetted panels creating the ceiling and descending down over the food counters.
Color change LEDs transform the white space into different hues allowing a variety of moods to be created within.
The cinema halls are created with minimal intervention and interior design seamlessly intervention in shades and textures of red.
The architectural and interior design seamlessly integrates creating a building that is energy efficient in response to its location with internal spaces that maximize the perception of openness.
