Wood, Villebois Stone and Travertine for a High-End Boutique
Located in a 19th-century building in Lyon, France, Maier has been selling luxury watches since 1998, attracting customers from all over the country. In a building with such an elaborate façade, it was no easy task to achieve stylistic consistency between the interior and exterior design in full respect of the building’s history, so the designers turned to barth, a company specializing in the creation of custom furniture.
The front of the boutique is adorned with hammered and smooth stone elements, then decorated with bronze-colored powder-coated vertical and horizontal profiles (also by barth) that, in combination with the window coverings and the travertine and bronze ornaments, enhance the natural light and attract the attention of passers-by, inviting them to enter. Inside, customers are welcomed at the reception desk with a walnut counter covered in travertine and topped with decorative stucco depicting the Grand Hôtel-Dieu in Lyon, emphasizing the link between the watchmaker and the city. Next to this, a decorative panel in a wave motif recalls the veining of the marble and creates a visual link with a second walnut counter with brass inlays and an Emperador marble top, above which six pendant lights strike an immediate decorative connection to the watches on sale. Beyond the reception area, after a wall covered with walnut slats, customers come to a second, more intimate sales area embellished by a velvet bench, carved in a special niche, that invites customers to take their time exploring the watches.
The store is a place that reveals itself step by step, welcoming customers in an alluring, elegant and exclusive atmosphere, where nothing is left to chance, from the design of the travertine floor to the carpet inserts, the furniture, the niches and the wooden ceilings – all the work of barth.
