Vertical frames for ample glazed lights
The new headquarters of home automation and anti-intrusion specialist, Ksenia Security, is located in Ripatransone, a small town nestled between the valleys of the Menocchia and Tesino rivers in the province of Ascoli Piceno in Italy’s central Marche region. Designed by architects Valentina Schiavi and Emanuele Colletta, the program for the new building aims to be a physical expression of the Company’s mission to combine innovation with tradition.
This has been achieved by integrating modern sustainable solutions with the tradition building materials of the region. The large linear warehouses are flanked by three separate office buildings, their traditional pitched roofs clad with the typical roof tiles of the region. Close by stands a modern elongated building whose extended cantilever forms a huge canopy over the double-height entrance. This volume houses classrooms for in-house training, the Company canteen and other functional spaces. A large picture window at the end of the cantilever offers views over the surrounding countryside. Promo S.p.A. was called in to design and install a glazed gallery connecting the various buildings at both levels.
All the façades have ample glazed lights starting from the ground level and continuing up into the roof. Manufactured by Promo S.p.A. with a Schüco façade system, they lend traditional-style elevations a distinctively innovative character. On the outside, the transparent frames blend perfectly with the sleek white volumes. Similarly, the use of corten steel – a traditional material of the area – creates a recurrent theme on the base of the buildings of the complex. The result is a company headquarters that projects a modern innovative identity while carrying forward tradition.
The entire complex of the new Ksenia Security HQ had to be built on a raised platform to comply with local hydro-geological and flood-prevention regulations. The dais comprises a photocatalytic reinforced concrete frame able to purify the air by absorbing smog and carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Another environment-friendly feature of the new complex is the photovoltaic plant on the warehouse roofs with a capacity of some 45 KW, sufficient to meet all the Company’s energy requirements.
