The Guosen Securities Tower in Shenzhen, China, is a new 750 foot (228 meter) skyscraper designed by Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas.
While with “The Cloud” (in other words, the EUR Convention Center, completed in Rome in 2016), Fuksas set out to breathe the lightness of a cloud into a heavy structure, with the Guosen Securities Tower, emptiness is the key theme.
Like a huge rip through its core, this architectural void extends up the height of the structure, forming its defining characteristic. To emphasize this concept, the building’s envelope was conceived as a huge rectangular prism of glass, whose rational, regular shape encompasses a flexible, dynamic volume in which full and empty spaces alternate. These openings within the building are dedicated to public spaces, with communal spaces, lobbies, and sky gardens arranged along the void, creating an unbroken stream of sunlight in these areas.
The complexity of the Guosen Securities Tower lies in its internal network of public spaces, strategically positioned to offer the best views of its urban surrounds.
Guosen Tower, with its immediately recognizable profile on the Chinese city’s skyline, will be the first ecological building in Shenzhen.
