Family Villa
Defined by clean lines and essential volumes, this villa designed by Luca Pignata blends seamlessly into the lush landscape of the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea on the Monterey Peninsula in central California. The two-story home features a consistent geometric design based on a square footprint that follows the natural contours of the site – a design that is further enhanced by the deliberate interplay of different material textures.
The rough surface of stone, the warm tones of wood, and the modern touch created by the extensive use of glass framed in metal – crafted with the expertise of Secco Sistemi – define the architectural character of the villa, maintaining formal elegance while visually connecting the interior to the surrounding environment. This connection is maximized by numerous terraces and custom furnishings designed to integrate into the landscaped garden outside, which includes stone paths, plants, trees and natural features that create a harmonious blend of man-made and natural elements.
The large curtain walls, made with Secco Sistemi’s OS2 75 system and defined by minimalist profiles in coated galvanized steel, allowed the creation of expansive glass façades marked by a series of doors, windows and solid modules, including corner solutions. These façades allow unobstructed sunlight to flood the interior, while the thin profiles elegantly frame the space, offering breathtaking views and new perspectives. The versatility of the chosen technical solution was central to being able to adapt the fixtures to the specific needs of the project, ensuring both thermal and acoustic comfort throughout the villa. The high performance of the OS2 75 system offers optimal protection against the weather typical of the Californian coast, while the balanced proportions and textural contrast between the transparency of the glass and the wood and stone surfaces are at the core of the villa’s striking architectural envelope.
Offering more than 40 different profiles and a range of premium materials – including brass, Cor-Ten, stainless steel and galvanized steel – the OS2 series with thermal break allows for custom combinations in every design element. This flexibility ensures that the creative vision of architects and designers is achieved without compromise, combining esthetics with technical excellence.
