Located in the hills near Vicenza, the home frames rolling landscape and expansive city views to merge them with the interiors
Designed by Spazio Architettura in the hills near Vicenza, C House offers sweeping views of the city. Its restrained exterior gives way to the powerful identity of the interiors. Responding to the unique topography, the house steps down across multiple levels to integrate with the site, unfolding as a spatial narrative that guides visitors step by step. Unexpected views, clean volumes, and intimate spaces alternate, while light and shadow act as tangible architectural materials.
Built on the highest ridge of the hill, the home commands 360-degree views of the entire valley. Access is from a lower elevation than the level of the main living area. A staircase flanked by planters marks the tucked-away front door, while the driveway tunnels into the hillside, where a garage and basement utility spaces connect to the main level via an elevator.
The volume projects toward the landscape. Viewed from the garden below, the house appears as a low, abstract white line that cuts across the horizon and frames the scenery. The deep overhang facing the valley casts a heavy shadow and filters light through expansive glazing, sheltering both indoor and outdoor spaces while framing the view.
The entry sequence unfolds to gradually expose the home’s articulated volumes. Sheltered by a cantilevered canopy, the main entrance at the northwest opens between two distinct volumes. Inside, a long visual axis aligns with the glazing and the east-facing portico, while a monolithic black millwork core serves as a multifunctional spatial divider.
While the outdoor areas function as extensions of the living spaces, the landscape is a clear presence within the home. Every room captures the view through openings that transform the interior into a continuous system with the outdoors. The kitchen and living room flow naturally beneath the deep, cantilevered roof plane.
A patio carved into the facade separates the living and sleeping quarters. The primary suite, with a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom, also features extensive glazing facing the portico and landscape, while two west-facing bedrooms and a bathroom sit adjacent to it.
The living area revolves around a monolithic black millwork core. Serving as the primary design feature and sole interior partition within the continuous floor plan, this hybrid element consolidates utility spaces, integrates storage, and accommodates the fireplace.
