Dondup is an italian fashion house founded in 1999 by Massimo Berloni and Manuela Mariotti.
The value of tradition and the modern and eccentric soul, are therefore the peculiarities of this made in Italy brand, which combine testing of materials, craftsmanship, cutting and manufacturing and a continuous quest for innovation.
The designed space - “Archivio Dondup” – is an old 400 sqm warehouse located in an industrial area surrounded by green hills in the Marche region.
“Archivio Dondup” is the ground zero of the brand’s new architectural image that will be implemented in all the boutiques worldwide.
It is not only meant to be a store, but a second Dondup home, a place where you find the magic of the brand’s history, and like all Corporate Identities, it is a translation into architecture of the Maison philosophy.
The request was to define a flexible space where not only could it be used as a showroom, but to stage fashion shows and events as well - in a welcoming, and cozy ambiance yet rock’n’roll and chic all at once.
The design has been developed by the team with the Client and it is simple and essential.
The wood in its natural shades together with the cast cement, the natural steel are the main materials; furnishing and complements, redesigned “objets trouvés”, all different one from the other and decorated with textures and warm colors, interact with the industrial mood exhibition systems.
The original architectonical container has been rigorously preserved; floorings, existing walls in blocks and industrial ceilings are kept intact.
The light colors, the spatula finish walls, the champagne colored box trusses along with the metallic pulleys , give the architecture a feeling of warmth and strength at the same time.
The light and the architecture are born as always in the same instant, integrating completely in every detail from the outside to the inside in a crescendo.
The facade is characterized by an illuminating outline which high-lightens the lines of the works done, defining and separating them visually from the context.
The closed part of the front is screened by counter-façade realized in technical textures, worked with light designs.
The main internal space is divided in three slots that have as a focus point a large white gate which other than being the separation between the Ladies area and the Man area, is also the entrance to a “rock” stage with a back wall with beaming shots.
The overall height of five meters and a request for a versatile system gave the idea of using blocks where to show the outfits as to allow dismounting and remounting in few hours. The exhibition elements have been realized in resin polystyrene with strengthening integrated bars. Thanks to this innovative technical solution it has been possible to realize very light elements, economic but tough, with a three meter free light with no intermediate supports.
Endless spotlights light up the clothing, while spectacular, vaguely gothic and romantic chandeliers reflect the brand’s soul. Light lines create cuts through the ceiling, hiding all the technical elements in the ceiling.
Every single detail has been carefully tailored and all of which is thought in a way architecture and light are at the Client’s complete disposal, who is the main character in this space.
