The new office and administration building of Hasslacher group at their site in Preding, Austria, is set to become an innovative, sustainable and economical project which reflects the company’s DNA. Designed by Trecolore Architects, supported by Luggin for the engineering and structural design, it comprises three stories with a gross floor area of 2,221 sq. m and was completed in just eight months. Interlocking volumes and striking cantilevers define the contemporary timber architecture, with exposed surfaces contributing to a pleasant indoor climate.

Around 1,000 cu. m of timber products from the Hasslacher group were used for the skeleton structure and the prefabricated façade system, including 655 cu. m of Hasslacher CLT clad with Excellent lamellas in spruce for the flat roof, intermediate floors and parts of partition walls. These elements set new standards by offering minimal joint formation and reduced crack development in the visible surface layer.

The primary structure required 232 cu. m of glulam, while highly stressed cantilever components were executed using hardwood glulam birch members, which is characterized by its outstanding appearance and excellent mechanical properties.

In the outdoor areas, 22 cu. m of façade boards and 222 sq. m of decking boards were installed, complemented by sawn timber and structural finger-jointed solid timber. All timber products were manufactured within the Hasslacher group, except for flooring and acoustic ceilings supplied by Admonter Holzindustrie. Early involvement of the executing subsidiary Holzbau Hofer, coordinated scheduling, and factory prefabrication enabled the timber shell to be completed in just under six weeks.

Smart building services such as sun shading, heat-recovery ventilation, and an energy-efficient heat pump system ensure a comfortable indoor climate year-round. Energy is supplied by a photovoltaic system, which also powers charging stations for electric bicycles and cars. With every component traceable back to its raw material origin, the Hasslacher group was honored with the PEFC Award in the category “Chain of Custody”.
