The idea emerged from the client’s deep-rooted bond with land and farming, and a desire for conscious living amid Urban life. The brief called for simplicity, sustainability, and distinct zoning to balance personal and professional life. This evolved into a climate-responsive home where built and unbuilt spaces coexist. A key request was an organic orchard and farm, integrated into the architecture. With no major regulatory constraints, the focus was on grounding the home in nature while addressing Ahmedabad’s extreme heat. The L-shaped layout, dual-entry, low built & planning, integration of orchard and waterbodies emerged from site orientation, sun path, and ecology—creating a quiet sanctuary that aligns with nature, daily rhythms, and mindful living.

A meandering stone pathway leads through landscaped mounds, directing movement organically toward the villa while blurring the transition between built and unbuilt

Nirmay responds to its land, ecology & urban setting. Located in the southwest of the plot, the low-built form preserves fertile ground for orchards & opens to the north and east, allowing uninterrupted views. The planning aligns with terrain contours—landscape mounds, lily ponds, and rockfall features are performative, regulating microclimate buffering heat. Architecture nurtures biodiversity and invites landscape into daily life. Every spatial transition reinforces continuity, purpose, and mindful engagement with the environment. The design addresses a common concern in contemporary residences—how to remain deeply connected to land, climate, and intent while accommodating modern lifestyles. Nirmay creates a symbiotic relationship between architecture, farming, and the natural terrain.

An aerial perspective reveals the L-shaped layout, expansive orchard-side lawns, and water-sensitive planning that defines the spatial and ecological intent of Nirmay

Nirmay rooted in ecological thinking. Low-built form preserves fertile land for orchards. Zikki lime plaster enhances breathability, purifies air & repels insects. Locally sourced Kotah stone offers thermal mass reducing heat gain. Reclaimed wood from the client’s ancestral home is used for doors, windows—minimizing extraction, layering emotional value. Passive cooling through shaded decks, courtyards, rockfall-lily pond. Rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, solar panels support self-sufficiency. Construction phased to reduce waste; leftover stone reused in landscape. Courtyards with soft paving retain permeability. Materials chosen for low embodied energy. Natural finishes, solid wood shape space through light & texture. Design reinforces self-sufficiency, climate responsiveness.

Layered rockfall and planting define a passive cooling zone at the outdoor office entrance, offering a sensory transition into the professional entry point

Nirmay is designed as an extension of the land—rooted, harmonizing with its surroundings. The L-shaped layout strategically positioned to southwest corner of the plot protecting itself from harsh Southwest heat, preserving fertile ground for orchards to North thus optimizing light, shade & climate performance. All living spaces oriented to the east, optimizes morning light, ensuring well-lit interiors while minimizing heat gain and opening to landscaped decks & uninterrupted terrain views. Its defining strength lies in how movement is choreographed—through shaded entries, courtyards, stepped thresholds & water elements that shape experience. The dual-entry planning separates professional& personal zones. An outdoor office with a rockfall & waterbody allows interaction while maintaining privacy. Planning follows the terrain’s contours; built, unbuilt flow together as one. Waterbodies, green buffers & native species foster biodiversity & thermal comfort. Skylights are strategically placed to maximize natural illumination. Courtyards, each fitted with skylights, create a strong indoor-outdoor connection, allowing spaces to feel open & well-lit. The architecture enables flexibility, longevity, and harmony, holding daily life in balance with nature and time. Nirmay - where architecture nurtures, protects, and enhances life. It is a space designed to breathe, adapt, and resonate with the rhythms of nature, making it not just a residence, but a living, evolving experience.

The outdoor lounge adjacent the waterscape forming a shaded zone of arrival—balancing privacy, climate, and experience
The design integrates our love for farming, with orchards & organic spaces woven into daily life. The balance between private retreats & gathering spaces reflects our lifestyle, while the climate-responsive features ensure comfort year-round. Every detail, from the reclaimed wood of our ancestral home to the water bodies is meaningful. Working with the team felt collaborative; they listened deeply, translating our vision into a home that feels authentically ‘us.’ Nirmay alive, evolving with us
