The project was born from a careful listening to a hidden building in the heart of Milan, with the aim of giving it an identity capable of engaging with the city and its inhabitants. “Raising one’s gaze” becomes both the symbolic and practical gesture of this transformation: a metaphor and a strategy at the same time. Through the light of the new skylight, the monumental staircase, and the new internal piazza, the Palazzina reconnects with the sky and reclaims its urban centrality. The renovation redefines circulation, opens spaces to wellbeing, and introduces sustainable solutions inspired by LEED principles, creating a place that unites beauty, functionality, and renewed environmental awareness.
The project was born from the desire to give Via del Lauro 7 an active role within the historic urban fabric of central Milan. The intervention engages with its context through a respectful and contemporary language, enhancing the existing layers and restoring new vitality. The transparency of the new entrances, the natural light filtering through the skylight, and the visual continuity of the interior spaces establish a direct connection with the city, transforming the building from a closed form into an open and permeable organism. The redevelopment reconnects the relationship between interior and exterior, bringing life and attention back toward the Milanese sky.
Sustainability has been interpreted as a guiding principle, capable of integrating technology, wellbeing, and environmental responsibility. The project adopts highly efficient building systems, including four-pipe systems and controlled ventilation, and prioritizes the use of low-impact, recycled, or certified materials. Natural light, enhanced by the skylight and new window frames, helps reduce energy consumption while enhancing the quality of workspaces. The building has been designed with LEED certification in mind, incorporating thermal comfort and air quality, achieving a regeneration that combines sustainability, health, and everyday beauty.
The strength of the project lies in its ability to transform a building into a recognizable, contemporary place capable of generating wellbeing. The intervention strategy goes beyond technical refurbishment, creating a new spatial experience through the concept of “Raising one’s gaze”: an architectural and symbolic gesture that reconnects the different floors and restores visual and perceptual continuity. The project enhances the building’s historical elements: the monumental staircase, the skylight, and the terrace are interpreted as devices of movement, light, and interaction. Careful attention to circulation and accessibility redesigns the entrances and improves the quality of reception, while sustainability-driven systems and material choices (four-pipe systems, controlled ventilation, certified materials) ensure comfort and energy efficiency. A balance between technical rigor and the poetry of space makes Via del Lauro 7 an example of sensitive regeneration, where the built heritage regains value through light, transparency, and environmental responsibility.
The redevelopment of Via del Lauro 7 represents a model of sustainable enhancement of real estate assets. The project combines architectural vision with environmental responsibility, transforming a technical building into a place capable of generating wellbeing, identity, and connection with the city. “Raising one’s gaze” has become, for us, a new way of inhabiting and investing in the city, with a focus on a more conscious and sustainable future.
