The concept of the new architectural layout is centered on the desire to create a new gym and the related services, without remove the school car parking that currently occupies the area. The first step of the project is to locate the gym on the first floor. The volume will be raised from the ground by piloties. The suspended, compact, and monolithic volume will be connected to the ground not only through the structural elements of the pilotis, but also through ‘two parallelepiped-shaped bodies’ that enclose the vertical connections. The functional aspect is combined with a rigorous architectural design that combines exposed concrete and metal cladding in a single color spectrum. Color and concrete are the elements that also shape the interior.

The project area il located in a peripheral area, east of the city center. The project wants to create a cultural and sports centre, for the student’s school and the community. Area is accessible from both driveway and footpath road. The building’s access from the outside, without interfering with services, allows the gym to be used for various public events, including non-sporting ones. The students will access the gym from a footpath connected to the school.
The building will be constructed to obtain nZEB (nearly zero energy buildings) requirements, characterised by low energy consumption for winter and summer air conditioning, optimisation of lighting, ventilation, domestic hot water production, and rainwater recovery. Particular attention is focused on the thermal insulation of the building envelope, to the elimination of thermal bridges, to low emissivity windows and glass, to hybrid heat pump heating systems and to photovoltaic modules positioned on the roof of the building. The building is designed and constructed to lower energy consumption and carbon emissions throughout its life cycle. The construction solutions, materials and components use comply with current CAM requirements. The project follows the "Do Not Significant Harm" (DNSH).
The building has been designed as a completely independent structure from the nearby school complex, with its own access, to make it available to the community. The architectural and formal language will also find expression in the "material emptying" of the south-east corner, where there will be a large opening: a geometric cut-out to let natural light into the gym. The choice of finishes are important for the design. These contribute to the definition of the value of the project idea. In fact, the aesthetic treatment of the front will be completed by the use of prefabricated panels, designed with vertical grooves that create a rhythmic alternation of light and shadow. Important will be the use of colour, homogeneous and identifying, a connotative element of the unity of the project.
The project merges architectural quality and technological performance with a cost-effective approach that maximizes value without compromise. Through smart material choices, modular construction, and integrated sustainable systems, the design delivers efficiency and durability. This balance meets the client’s vision: a high-impact, low-maintenance facility that serves both function and community identity.
The contruction of this gym will be for the school and for the city of Ascoli Piceno. A building with nZeb requirements, sustainable and functional.
