The project involves the creation of an aluminum façade cladding with rectangular panels folded diagonally, with the vertices at varying depths. Three colors are used: two shades of blue and one shade of gray. Visually, the façade offers a variety of hues, far more than those used in the original design. As you move, you perceive a continuous shift in color that varies depending on the distance or viewing angle. It is composed of 358 unique panels, each with 200 different folding angles, from 77 degrees to 179. There are no visible joints; the panels are supported by 1,500 angle brackets fixed to a load-bearing structure, resulting in a uniform façade. Nighttime viewing is complemented by an RGB ground lighting system that creates a striking visual effect throughout the building.
The project involves the renovation of an existing building intended to serve as an auditorium within the school complex, adjacent to a public road. The building connects to the secondary school on the south side and overlooks the primary school on the west side.To ensure a clear view of the adjacent school, three colors were used for the building's façade envelope: two shades of blue and one shade of gray.To characterize and highlight the different intended use, that of a theater, the façade surfaces were modified three-dimensionally, adjusting the depth of the diagonal vertices of each panel. The theater thus fits harmoniously into its surroundings, establishing a clear identity for the entire community. The outdoor spaces are accessible through pedestrian and bicycle paths.
The reason why painted metal was chosen was its ductility, ease of workmanship, and extreme modularity. The processes were developed in the workshop, combining all the various panel types, so that the construction phase on site was easily planned, recreating the compositional puzzle with millimetric precision and saving construction time. Another factor is environmental sustainability, as the material is 100% recyclable at the end of its life. Last but not least, in the event of damage, the possibility of surgically replacing only the vandalized panel is possible.
The project was designed taking into account all aspects of sustainability. Regarding insulation, the theater walls are equipped with a 16 cm EPS insulation system, 20 cm on the roof, and 10 cm on the basement intrados. The foyer roof features a flat green roof to minimize heat island effects and reduce rainwater runoff. In the foyer itself, heating is provided by a radiant floor system powered by a heat pump. A 20 kW photovoltaic system was installed on the theater roof. The Casaclima Class A energy certification was obtained, in line with the European Parliament Directive on the energy performance of buildings (EU) 2024/1275 and subsequent amendments. The project participated in The Plan Award 2024, placing among the top 400 projects on the shortlist.
Since the project was a renovation, it began with fixed elements, such as the building's volume and its context. The stage was redesigned, expanding it by 50% compared to the previous one, rearranging the seating, creating a grandstand, and improving visibility while maintaining a sufficient capacity for various events. The room was soundproofed with MDF panels, recreating volumetric movements on the walls, complemented by RGB lighting. This was achieved through inserts surrounded by dual-light LED strip profiles, which make the lighting management within the theater particularly striking. The theater hall is equipped with an immersive projection system, both on the walls and the stage, designed to reproduce images and videos that can create virtual sets. The hall itself is equipped with a high-resolution video recording system for streaming events or for artistic productions. The foyer was demolished and rebuilt, expanding it, and equipping it with a fully immersive system, both in terms of projection—360°, including the floor—and acoustics. These interventions make the theater technologically advanced, the first project in Italy to feature a fixed immersive system.Another feature was the metal cladding of the theater's facade, with its unique construction and composition. With just three colors, it creates a visually striking effect, changing depending on the viewing angle and the intensity of the light throughout the day, perceiving various hues, making the entire experience unique.
The professional activity takes place mainly within the public administration, designing various interventions on schools, public buildings, roads, squares and urban furnishings.
